OHIP covers the cost of one major eye exam for vision and general eye health every 12 months. You need to be :
– 19 years and younger
– 65 years and older
If you are 20 to 64 years old, most insurance companies will provide coverage for testing .
If you have a specific medical condition( diabetes mellitus, glaucoma, cataracts, retinal disease….) or other specific eye health issues affecting your eyes that requires regular monitoring, OHIP will cover the cost of the eye exam for you once every 12 months regardless of age and any follow-up appointments related to the condition.
Our eye exams include two steps:
Ocular Health: We examine the tissues of your eyes to ensure that no pathology threatens your vision.
Visual Health: We check the function of your eyes – more specifically, the binocular vision of your eye movements and of the focus of your eyes
